The Papermoon Diner is located in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore.  My friends (Becky, Lauren, Kate, and Sam) and I (Christina) decided to go here the other night to grab some dinner.  This was my first visit to Paper Moon Diner and I must say, when I walked into the place, I was taken back by the rather strange/eccentric decor.  It is definitely not your “everyday” cafe.  We did not have to wait long; our waitress immediately took us to our seats and handed us menus (the covers of the menus were children’s books! cute!).

The menu was incredibly long…serving anything from banana foster french toast, crab omelettes, beef chili, different types of burgers, veggie sandwiches, sweet potato fries, a variety of salads and quesadillas, pastas, and a wide array of dessert choices.  The menu was pretty overwhelming; everything sounded delicious.  We finally decided on the following options:

Hella Portabella Sandwich: Grilled portabella and fresh mozzarella on toasted `Sunflower bread, with spinach, tomato, and vinaigrette with garlic and lemon herb and served with a mix of sweet potato and regular fries.

Classic Moon Burger with Sweet Potato Fries

Louisa’s California Dream Quesadilla: Avocado, fresh basil, tomatoes, melted cheddar and swiss in a crispy tortilla shell.

Oink Oink Quesadilla: BBQ Pulled Pork, fried onions, bacon, and cheddar in a crispy tortilla shell.

Veggie Cheesesteak: Sautéed onions, broccoli, mushrooms, spinach with melted mozzarella served on a sub roll with lettuce, tomato and vinaigrette

We all enjoyed our meals but Becky and I both agreed that it didn’t blow us out of the water or anything.  Both of our sandwiches (Hella Portabella and Veggie Cheesesteak) were just “so-so” and the staff was a bit inattentive.  We thought that perhaps we just ordered the wrong thing- the menu was soooo long and there seemed to be a lot of delicious sounding options.  I hear that their breakfast is amazing so perhaps next time I visit here (which although it sounds like I hated the place- I didn’t and will surely be visiting here again) I will go for breakfast or perhaps a different option on the menu for lunch/dinner.  I must say though, the sweet potato fries were AWESOME! :)  The Paper Moon Diner has the potential to be great- I just hope the next time I visit- I enjoy the meal a bit more than the first time around.  It is  certainly not a conventional diner in terms of decor and the wide variety of food options.  Paper Moon Diner is a fun place to go with friends to grab a late night meal or a delicious breakfast together :)
