Blue Agave is a Mexican Restaurant located in Federal Hill in Baltimore. My friends and I went here early last Friday for Happy Hour and Dinner. The Happy Hour special was $5 white or red sangria, $5 Margartias, $3 imported beer and $2.50 domestic beer. We thought that the atmosphere was Blue Agave was great… it had a real Mexican feel to it and was very nice inside. The sangria and margaritas were great but the the food did not blow us out of the water…it was still very good though. I think that if we ordered something else on the menu we would have felt differently, though. So I guess you could say that our review is a bit biased; no one ordered off the entrees…we all just got salads, appetizers, burritos…stuff like that. The entrees sounded great and I think next time I will try one of them but for this trip to Blue Agave I was not very hungry; I was pretty stuffed from the trying all the brownies I made for the Battle of the Brownies!
Would we go back? Absolutely! But would definitely be a bit more adventurous next time and try something different.
Rating (out of 10): 7. Awesome atmosphere, great drinks, a real mexican place, food was decent.

We started with Queso Fundido (traditional blend of four Mexican cheesesserved hot with warm flour tortillas) to share. This dip was delicious. ”A-m-a-z-i-n-g” as Kaitlyn put it!

We also ordered Guacamole Fresco (made in-house with fresh avocado, lime, cilantro, chiles, tomato & onion.Fresh fish/seafoodcured in hand squeezed) to share. LOVE guacamole

Allie and Mary-Kate ordered Flautas de Pollo (Rolled chicken tacos with serrano chiles and jack cheese with mole verde). Allie said this was really good! The taco shells were nice and crispy and the chicken/cheese/peppers inside had a lot of flavor and it was great overall.
Megan ordered Enchiladas Verde: Pulled chicken with Mexican cheeses in green chile sauce topped with slivered red onion and cotijacheese. Red chile rice and refried beans.
Kaitlyn and Lauren both got the Buritto de Pollo: Tender pulled chickenrolled with refried beans and cotija cheese. Red chile rice & mole verde. They both agreed that the burrito was a little dry and nothing that special. You win some, you lose some I guess!
I ordered the Ensalada de la Casa: Spring mix, avocado, tomato, black beans, and grilled chicken topped with cotija cheese in a honey lime dressing. This was a very good salad. Flavorful and for a salad it was still pretty filling (due to the beans, chicken, and avocado). Next time I’d probably order this in the smaller version (minus the chicken) and get a real entree, though. It was kind of shame that I wasnt hungry at all when we got there (too many brownies!). I still managed to leave Blue Agave stuffed! I guess it was from the salad plus the fundido and the massive amounts of chips, guac and salsa! … yum yum
Kaitlyn ordered this for dessert. She said it was very good…”rich and flavorful”! We all had little tastes of it, too! I am not exactly sure what it was to be honest. Some sort of chocolate cake type of thing. But there was a spicy kick to it. Sounds strange, but it was quite delicious!
After dinner we went to Blockbuster…and yes, as Allie so informed me, people still actually go here! haha I thought blockbuster was fazed out but apparently it is still going strong! We rented Monster. Have you seen this movie? It was really good…Charlize Theron was amazing in it! She wont a Oscar for best actress for this movie in fact!

I had so much fun on our Girls Night! The night was filled with good food, good drinks, good fun and good friends
Love spending time with those girls! I sounded like such a girl right there, didn’t I? haha… I love having relaxed Friday nights every once in awhile…a nice change of pace.
Question 1: What is your favorite type of mexican Dish?
Question 2: What did you do last weekend? What are your plans for the coming weekend?

Hi! I just found your blog. All of that food looks so good! I love Mexican. I thought the movie Monster was really good, but pretty depressing, I needed a pick me up after I watched it. I’d have to say my favorite Mexican dish is enchiladas. Last weekend, I went roller blading, went on a run on Sunday, and worked on my blog. This weekend I”m going for a bike ride with my dad. Have a good day and weekend!
What a fun night out! I am craving Mexican now:)
Looks like you had a great time at the restaurant! I’m a Maryland native and will have to remember this place next time I’m around. Thanks for sharing this!
I’m so glad I found your blog and look forward to exploring more from you! – Georgia
Omgsh isn’t that movie crazy! first how did they make such a gorgeous women look like that! and then making you actually feel sad for a serial killer! I watched a documentary on her once and it made me sad because she really was convinced the government knew she was killing all along but were using electrical waves in her head to keep her doing it…
oh wow really? i would love to see that documentary. i was truly stunned when i saw what the actress really looked like in real life (I am not up on all that stuff so i had no idea who she was haha)
I could have Mexican every night of the week and never get sick of it. During the summer I make GALLONS of salsa – sadly both my gas grill and my Weber are under 20 inches of snow, and I just cracked the last jar I canned last summer last weekend.
I love deep fried flautas!
