Last night my friends Anna, Meaghan, and Rosina got dinner at Grilled Cheese & Co. in Catonsville, MD (about 20 minutes outside of Baltimore). We had a little bit of trouble finding the place…it is kind of off on its own and the outside looks like a small white house (was definitely a bit skeptical at first)… but when you walk inside the atmosphere is much different. That was pretty much the only downside of this place. Well…I guess the prices were a little much for just a grilled cheese (most sandwiches are about ~ $7.00) but I guess one could argue that this isnt just your everyday grilled cheese! It was worth the money… in my opinion. I thought that the idea of this place is so unqiue…simple yet original at the same time, dont ya think?!
The grilled cheese at Grilled Cheese & Co. is made with fresh ingredients and the sandwiches taste delicious! We ordered shoe string fries and sweet potato fries to share as well as a salad (which was not much to write home about…wouldnt get a salad again). Forgot to take photos of the fries and salad…sorry! We were very hungry when the food was served so we gobbled things up pretty quickly—I was lucky enough to be able to snap a quick photo of the grilled cheeses before they were gone!
Overall rating: 8/10…definitely going back soon!
Anna ordered The Fresco: Fresh Mozzarella & Whole Milk Mozzarella, fire roasted peppers, basil pesto & balsamic glaze topped with a touch of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

I ordered the Veggie Delight: Havarti Cheese with a medley of roasted vegetables, sauteed wild mushrooms & an olive spread on whole grain bread brushed with olive oil.

Rosina ordered the BCT: Delicious layers of aged cheddar, crumbled smoked bacon & freshly diced tomatoes.

Meaghan ordered the Cordon Bleu: Swiss cheese, smoked ham & grilled chicken served with dijon mustard sauce.

Grilled cheese is such a fond memory of everyone’s youth! It is simple and delicous and makes anyone happy (especially when served with some tomato soup
)… I liked this place very much and will be back again!
Question: Do you have any memories (fond memories, that is) from your childhood of a certain food? Doesn’t have to be grilled cheese!
hmmm let me think here. For me, I would say that my fondest food memory is my Grandmom’s French Toast. It reminds me of staying over my Grandmom’s home down the shore in the summer. Every single time I slept over her house I would wake up to the smell of French Toast in the air…yummm. My sisters and I would jump out of bed, run to the kitchen, and gobble down seconds, thirds, and fourths are her french toast. We were little piggies, I tell ya! We loved to top it with cinnamon & sugar and syrup…super healthy, I know…but who cares…it was delicious. Everytime I see or smell french toast it reminds me of my Grandmom and makes me so incredibily happy… miss her so much.

Aw thanks so much larissa!! how is school going for you?
This looks awesome (as always with everything you post). If you are looking for restaurants that bring back childhood memories you got to try Peanut Butter & Co. I wonder if the same people own both places. Anyway its in downtown Manhattan and here is a link to the menu…

where is this place and WHY haven’t I found it yet! Pretty much all of my Dad’s family lives in Catonsville!
Mmm that looks really good, I want to make a veggie grilled cheese at home now. I’d have to say one food that remind me of childhood is mashed potatoes. We had a “family secret” potato recipe and I swear we ate them with everything.
you should…very good! I never had “havarti” cheese before but it was soft and mild just like mozzarella. i saw that you tried the one of hte treadmill intervals we have on the site! a good way to make the treadmill less boring, right?
haha thats funny that you have never been there before! Its sort of off on its own so thats probably why you havent seen it in passing… definitely try it out though and let mek know how you like it!
hey alex! I have actually seen that site/menu before (because I eat Peanut butter & Co. peanut butter)- but I have never actually been there- looks so cool!! have you been?
You always find the best places to eat! It makes me want to move near you. I looove grilled cheeses (even more when I was little). I think the food though that most reminds me of childhood is pancakes : )
oh my these look good. Can’t ever go wrong with cheese in my book.

grilled cheese and tomato soup are HUGE childhood faves of mine. I don’t revisit that classic nearly enough!
P.S. I am new to havarti, and gosh, do I loo-oo-oooove it.

This place is just INSIDE 695, the Baltimore beltway on Edmondson Avenue, which is exit 14. It is right next to a Royal Farms store. If you come off the outer loop, TURN LEFT and go under 695, Royal Farms store on the left, slow down and put on your left turn signal…grilled cheese place. If you come by way of the inner loop of 695, get to the right hand side of the exit ramp. It is a wide single shared exit by the time you get to Edmondson Aveune. Turn right onto Edmondson and then immediately left into/around the grilled cheese emporium. It is a single white two-story building. Front entrance only, with steps, no ramp. Watch out for the rubber mat/s if they are still there and when leaving don’t forget that step down out of the building.
If you are coming through the city, Edmonson Avenue is part of Route 40. Just past Cooks Lane keep to the left. Route 40 will continue to the right, straight ahead kind of, and becomes Baltimore National Pike with lots of businesses and signage. Bearing left at the light will keep you on Edmondson into a residential area, the Ten Hills neighborhood, you are still in the city. Passing the larger single houses you’ll come into a little business district, you’re not there yet. Soon Edmondson Avenue makes a big sweeping right hand CURVE, theres a church on your right, and you’re into Baltimore County. Keep driving, the grilled cheese restaurant is going to be on your right. If you see the Royal Farms store on your right and the 695 interchange you just passed it.
FYI, They have recently upped their prices dramatically (well as of last night) and no longer allow you to combo your sandwich for $2. Now to combo your sandwich it is an additional 4-5 dollars. Grilled cheese prices have also gone up.
