Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

by Mary & Christina on March 23, 2011

Like I’ve said before…I LOVE the combination of Peanut Butter and Chocolate. Absolutely love it.  I know this is a bold statement (but I am feeling quite bold today) ….but I rarely go a day without peanut butter or some type of chocolate snack/treat (and a banana…but that has nothing to do with this post).  Anyway…my favorite candy is Reese’s Cups.  I am pretty particular about it, though.  I do not like the mini cups because the proportion of chocolate to peanut butter is way off (too much chocolate!).  The regular old reese’s cups are perfect….but what is even better is the Easter Eggs and Christmas Trees which have more Peanut Butter than chocolate…and believe me…this is not a bad thing!  Yes, I actually think about these sort of things haha…

Anyway…so when I saw a recipe for Homemade Peanut Butter Cups on This Homemade Life…I knew I had to try it!  Not only was this recipe super easy to make…but the cups came out great! She made the cups using regular-sized muffin pans but I opted to use mini-muffin cups.  Either way is fine.  Now if you are thinking these are going to taste like Reese’s Peanut Butter cups….think again.  Because they dont.  They taste much more…sophisticated (?) than that (what a weird word I just chose to use huh?).  But they are really tasty and so small that you can easily pop in 2 or 3…or 4 or 5…in one sitting ;)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup natural peanut butter
  • 3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 milk
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans, peanuts or almonds

Directions

  1. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.  Set aside.
  2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.  Stir in the peanut butter, graham cracker crumbs and sugar.  Mix well. Remove the mixture from the heat.  Evenly divide the mixture among the 12 muffin cups.
  3. Combine the chocolate and milk in another small saucepan.  Stir over medium heat until the chocolate has melted.  Spoon the chocolate evenly over the peanut butter mixture.  Top with chopped nuts.  Place in the refrigerator to set for a couple hours before serving.

Question 1: What is your favorite candy?

Question 2: what is one thing that you never go a day without? Mine is some sort of sweet, peanut butter or almond butter, and a banana

OMG Christina, those look SO GOOD. I really need to make them- they’d be nice as a gift, if I didn’t eat them all first. I am right there with ya, I can’t remember the last day I’ve gone without peanut butter, and if I skipped the pb it’s because I had some almond butter instead!

1. that’s my favorite candy too! i’m picky as well. it’s gotta be the right chocolate to pb ratio

2. definitely peanut butter in oatmeal. with a banana of course. are you sure we’re not related? either way i guess that means ill have to meet you in boston for sure this year :)

I love the easter egg reeses! I don’t understand why the PB is more then in a normal PB cup. It is a good treat for sure! The homemade cups look delicious and I like that you can adjust the ingredients to your liking and using more natural products.

I can’t go a day without chocolate and if I do skip chocolate, it’s for a really rare reason!

YES! we have to meet up in boston. it’s going to be a busy weekend for sure but there’s no reason we cant meet up! maybe we can go on a run on sunday together? and when I say a run I mean a short 2 mile shuffle haha. i cannot believe that boston is so soon. I am getting exciting (and extremely nervous too!)
