Peanut Butter and Milk Chocolate Chip Brownie Bars

by Mary & Christina on March 21, 2011

As I already talked about in a previous post, this past Saturday I made dinner with my friends Kaitlyn and Michelle.  I made Arancini Casserole and Kaitlyn took care of the dessert. Kaitlyn found a recipe on the  Hershey Website for Peanut Butter and Milk Chocolate Chip Brownie Bars.  She wouldnt tell me what the dessert was going to be until I arrived at her apartment.  She told me that since she knew I loved anything with chocolate and peanut butter that she decided to make this…how thoughtful is she?! I think I’ll keep her around for awhile… ;)

But anyway…this recipe did not dissapoint.  The only critcism we all had was that we could have taken the brownie bars out of the oven a few minutes than we did but it wasnt a huge deal…the brownies were still amazing…especially served with the drizzle that she put on top (which is not in the photos).  Ah…I cant stop thinking about them! I want one now!!

Kaitlyn and I on St. Patty's day

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
  • 1-1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
  • 3 eggs, divided
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup HERSHEY’S Cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
  • 1/2 cup REESE’S Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Chips, divided
  • 1 cup REESE’S Peanut Butter Chips, divided
  • 3/4 teaspoon shortening

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
  2. Stir together butter, sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla in large bowl. Add 2 eggs; stir until blended. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture, stirring until blended. Spread in prepared pan. Bake 20 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, stir together sweetened condensed milk, peanut butter, remaining egg and remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Pour evenly over hot brownie. Set aside 1 tablespoon each milk chocolate chips and peanut butter chips; sprinkle remaining chips over peanut butter mixture. Return to oven; continue baking 20 to 25 minutes or until peanut butter layer is set and edges begin to brown. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
  4. Stir together remaining milk chocolate chips, remaining peanut butter chips and shortening in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 30 seconds; stir. If necessay, microwave at MEDIUM an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred. Drizzle over top of bars. When drizzle is firm, cut into bars. Store loosely covered at room temperature. 24 to 36 bars.

**NOTE** These photos do NOT show the drizzle on top of the brownies (the photos of that did not come out very good)… but believe me…the drizzle makes this recipe even better so please do not forget this part!**  The picture below is from the Hershey website— just to give you an idea of the drizzle.

Question: As I said above, I LOVE anything involving chocolate and peanut butter…do you have any combos like this that you love?

I love peanut butter and chocolate as well. Sometimes I mix it up and do a coconut/chocolate combination as well!
