Last week my older sister, Danielle, and our great friend, Lauren, met for dinner in Collingswood, NJ at Sapori Trattoria Italiana. I love getting together with them…especially when good food is involved! We always have such a fun time and our dinners usually last hours. The last time we all went out was back in December when we went to Barbuzzo in Philadelphia.
Lauren and I had both been to Sapori once before, but this was Danielle’s first time dining here.
When we were seated, we were brought a loaf of delicious bread with an amazing dip. The dip that comes with the bread changes on a regular basis. Tonight’s dip was made from carrots, red onion, parmesan cheese, and olive oil. I absolutely loved it. I definitely need to try to make something like this at home! We devoured two loaves of bread.
To start, Lauren ordered the Carpaccio di Carne, Filet Mignon sliced wafer thin cured in an olive oil and lemon emulsion under a baby rucola salad with shavings of Parmiggiano Reggiano.
Danielle ordered the Insalata di fichi e pere, rucola salad with dried figs, walnuts, pears, and gorgonzola cheese in an extra virgin olive oil-balsamic vinegar dressing. She subbed the gorgonzola for goat cheese.
For Danielle’s entree, she ordered a half plate of the Fettuccine al ragu’ d’astice, Maine lobster meat sauteed with shallot and cherry tomatoes in a white wine-tomato-touch of cream sauce, served with fettuccine over a layer of pesto. This dish was incredible! I ordered this the last time I was here!
Lauren and I both decided on veal dishes. Lauren ordered the Spiedini di Vitello, tender filets of veal rolled with pine nuts, raisins, bread crumbs, pancetta, onion, and caciocavallo cheese, grilled and served on a skewer with onions and bay leaf, topped with a lemon-olive oil-almonds-butter sauce, side of sweet peas.
I decided on the Scaloppine di Vitello, filets of veal sauteed with mushrooms, figs, and shallots, topped with goat cheese and served in a red wine sauce, next to roasted potatoes and fried zucchini.
For dessert, we decided to shared gelato and a cannoli. We ordered Vanilla & Fig gelato, but the awesome waiter also brought us out a dish of the Chocolate Hazelnut gelato! All of the flavors were so delicious. The fig had chunks of fig in it which made it really awesome.
We also successfully shared this cannoli three ways!
These desserts never stood a chance around us…
Following dessert, the waiter brought over some complimentary Limoncello and some kind of Chocolate after dinner drink.
We had an awesome experience at Sapori. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly and really made our dining experience incredible. We also loved everything we ordered. I love how Sapori is not your typical Italian-American restaurant. They do not serve typical Italian American dishes like Chicken Parmesan. Rather, their cooking is more authentic Italian cooking. I already can’t wait to return to try out some different dishes!

I LOVE Sapori! I’ve only been there once but my experience was awesome. Their food is more authentic and the flavors are so unique. They have some kind of fish dish that they prepare table side that I want to try sometime! Great post and photos
