Tre Scalini Restaurant Review

by Mary & Christina on May 15, 2011

Sorry that we haven’t updated in about a week!  Hopefully we won’t let that happen again.  Christina graduates from college at the end of the week so she is super busy having fun with her friends…haha.  But anyway, I will share with you a Philadelphia restaurant review.  I apologize in advance for the quality of the photos, I only had my iPhone with me.

A few weeks ago, Todd, Lauren and I were strolling around South Philadelphia and stopped at Tre Scalini for dinner.  Tre Scalini is located in South Philadelphia on E. Passyunk Avenue.  Their menu is not on their website, but you can view it here.

To start, Todd ordered the Homemade Roasted Red Peppers served with fresh Mozzarella Cheese.

I ordered the Salad Special of the day which was Arugula with Figs, Walnuts, Ricotta Salata and Ricotta Cheese with drizzled Honey.

Lauren ordered the Antipasta Plate.

Before our entrees, Lauren and I shared a small portion of the Angel Hair Pasta sauteed with with jumbo lump crabmeat in a delicate tomato sauce.  I really like how Tre Scalini allows you to order small pasta portions instead of the entree sized portions.  This was a pretty big serving of pasta.

For Todd’s entree, he ordered the pasta special of the day which was Homemade Pappardelle with Porcini Mushrooms.

For our entrees, the Lauren and I were both drawn to the same thing on the menu, the Veal with Mushrooms.

This was delicious.  I have just been loving veal lately.  It is so tender and flavorful, especially when cooked correctly!

We really enjoyed our meals and would definitely go back.  The service was fantastic and the food was delicious.  Although we opted against dessert at Tre Scalini, we ventured down the street to Capogiro Gelato for some of my favorite gelato.  We enjoyed incredible flavors including Peanut and Caramel Cinnamon.  I am still thinking about how delicious they were.  We had a great night of eating as usual.  I love nights like this!

The roasted peppers and ricotta looks divine! I’ve never been to this restaurant, but if there is a capogiro nearby I might have to go… I am absolutely in love with their gelato! It’s been way too long since I’ve had it. I almost went yesterday and now I’m totally regretting not going.
