My (Christina) parents and sister came to visit me and we we went to dinner at the Woodberry Kitchen. My mom saw an article in Bon Appetit Magazine last year about this place and it was also suggested to me by several bloggers. So we decided to give this place a try! Verdict of Woodberry Kitchen…LIKED IT. liked it, alot. I asked my family to rate it from 1-10. I gave it an 8.5, my mom gave it an 8 and my sister and dad gave it a 7.5. My dad is a very picky man…he said a place only gets a 10 if “Bobby flay himself cooks the meal right in front of me”.Impossible to get a 10? you bet. haha but in all seriousness, we all really enjoyed it here. I loved the fact the the restaurant gets their ingredients from local growers and that that they have an emphasis on “organic meats and sustainable agriculture”. You could tell that they cooked their meals with the finest of ingredients. The atmosphere was really awesome- comfortable yet fun at the same time. The portions were not overly big at all. everything was perfect. The waitress was really nice and very knowledgeable of the menu. Would absolutely go back again!
bird's eye view of the first floor of Woodberry Kitchen...we sat upstairs (I took this picture when we were walking down the stairs to leave)
As soon as we walked into this restaurant, I was impressed by the ambience; it had a very cozy feel to it and looked like no other place I have ever dined at before. There were three sections to sit at….one was a seperate (quieter room) room with about 10 tables or so in it… my mom said that next time she would like to get a table in there since it was more quiet/quaint. They had another room (in the picture above) that was where the bar was located. It was very open and a bit noisier. We sat upstairs where they had about 10-15 booth-style tables. Loved it up there! They sat us and gave us menus:

We started out with drinks. My sister and I ordered a glass of Syrah, my Mom ordered a cosmo, and my Dad got one of the drinks on the cocktail list. and then my Dad got a bottle of wine to share for the table. We decided to get a bunch of appetizers to share:
Truckpatch Spinach Salad: Reidi's apple, almonds, goat cheese, maple
Verdict of the salad: AWESOME. the goat cheese was absolutely amazing- so creamy and delicious.
Flatbread: smoked chicken, garlic, spinach, cheese (forget what kind!)
verdict of the flatbread: AWESOME. the flatbread had such a nice, smokey flavor to it. My sister decided to ask where the smokey flavor came from (because my dad thought it was a sauce or something) and the waitress told us that they actually slice the chicken and stick it in a smoker for hours. pretty awesome, eh? I put some of the goat cheese on the pizza when I got down to the crust and it was veraaa tasty!
Sizzling Shrimp: Romesco, onion, lemon
Verdict of the shrimp: I always thought I HATED shrimp. but really, I just hate shrimp cocktail. cooked shrimp is muy muy delicioso! This dish didnt rock my socks off or anything but it was very tasty indeedy.
carrots and their tops with some type of butter-based sauce
verdict of the carrots: no good. I love carrots, obviously. But I really just did not like the sauce that they poured over the carrots. It even looks gross too (green??). oh well. we tried, right?
Baked Stuffed Chincoteage Clams: Bacon, roasted chile, bread crumbs
not a clam-eater myself so I did not try this appetizer. My parents seemed to enjoy it though!
My entree:
Big Eye Tuna with roasted cauliflower and sweet potato bits
GREAT choice on my part, thank you thank you. This was REALLY good. perfectly cooked.
and for dessert my sister and I shared the Flourless Chocolate Cake with their homemade vanilla icecream and then helped my mom finish off her ice cream once we were finished with ours own.
I really liked how they broke the cake up into little sections. The flourless chocolate cake was AWESOME and the ganache was also AWESOME. the homemade ice cream was delicious- had a very “real vanilla” flavor to it. We also ordered tea and they presented it to us in these cool little tea pots. The tea was really good- they had real tea leaves and brewed them in a strainer type thing inside of the pot:
